D&D London releases sommeliers' Top 100

Published:  15 February, 2013

Following its 2011's Love Wine initiative to make fine wines more accessible, D&D London is to release a sommeliers' Top 100.

The new list aims to offer an exceptional range of wines at outstanding prices, compiled by the top sommeliers across the London restaurant group.

Each have selected some of their favourite bottles from their cellars, and the list focuses on the finest and most sought-after vintages. It also includes wines by the glass and the opportunity for customers to buy online for delivery at home.

White wines in the Top 100 range from a Puligny-Montrachet Domaine Francois Carillon 2010, priced at £65 (available at Almeida), right up to a Domaine Trimbach Riesling Clos Saint Hune, from Alsace, at £488 (Le Pont de la Tour). Reds include a South African Merlot Anthonij Rupert 2006, also available by the glass, and a Pomerol Pétrus 1995 available at Coq D'Argent for £2,100.

Chief executive of D&D London, Des Gunewardena, said: "Our Love Wine Top 100 was a huge success with our customers the last time we launched it in 2011.This time around we have some equally spectacular wines. The Pétrus 1995, which is on Coq d'Argent's list, is one of the greatest wines ever. But the Top 100 is not all superstar wines at superstar prices. One of my personal favourites is the Orma Sette Ponti 2008 on Skylon's list, which is a fabulous wine that's available at a much more affordable price than some of its more celebrated super Tuscan sisters."

He added: "The London restaurant world is full of stories about the latest trends in food and exciting new chefs. There is less talk about wine, winemakers and sommeliers. Our sommeliers' Top 100 is something that we hope will help put wine a little more centre stage in the restaurant scene."

While the aim of making outstanding wines affordable remains, this year the list has two new features. Firstly, the recent launch of New Street Wine Online (shop.newstreetwineshop.co.uk) will allow consumers to purchase a selection of the Top 100 wines online, with free next-day delivery in London. Also for the first time, the restaurants' Enomatic machines will allow a range of the Top 100 wines to be available by the glass.

The full list can be viewed online at danddlondon.com/article/love-wine-with-our-top-100/1079. Wines will be available, subject to stock, from February 14 to March 14.
