Tesco's new wine category manager Alain Guilpain has come on board following a stint as trading director for non-food in the Czech and Slovak republics.

Guilpain takes up his role next week, on July 23, replacing Claire Lorains, who was promoted to category director for healthcare.

Prior to his eastern European role, Guilpain was category manager in produce and also held roles across the Tesco's fresh and packaged food categories.

He has a degree in marketing and economics and spent two years in National Service in the French Army before joining the supermarket in 1995 as a stock control manager. During his career he has worked across a broad range of categories in the supermarket including dairy.

Beers, wines and spirits category director Dan Jago said: "Alain's broad commercial experience will bring valued skills to the wine team. We look forward to welcoming him and working together to continue to bring excitement, quality and value for money to our customers in the wine aisle."

The supermarket recently promoted Liam Wylie to the position of buyer and Christel McCombie to assistant buyer within BWS, following the news that Lorains was moving departments.
