The award-winning master sommelier will lead a series of masterclasses, in partnership with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and a key wine retailer, and will also be involved in the Absolutely Cracking Wines from France trade tasting.
Basset has been involved in the wine industry for more than 25 years and has spent most of his professional life in the UK. He got his OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2011. He co-founded the Hotel du Vin group in 1994, which he sold 10 years later. In 2007 he opened Hotel TerraVina in the New Forest, Hampshire, with his wife Nina.
Basset said: "France offers some of the greatest and most exclusive wines in the world, but there are also a host of easy to drink, accessible wines too. I look forward to sharing my passion for the range of tastes and styles which are available in the UK with trade and wine-drinkers alike."
The UK campaign is part of a three-year pan-European French wines marketing campaign funded by FranceAgriMer, the body which supports French agricultural sectors. Activities will run in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Russia and the UK.
