Wine trade stalwart Guy Wilkes dies

Published:  05 April, 2012

Guy Wilkes, 49, has died following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Wilkes's career started with Hedges & Butler before he joined Griersons and then Geoffrey Roberts Associates. But he is best known in the trade for his time at Negociants UK. He joined in 1992 and left in 2004 to move to the West Country to set up his own wine business - The Wine Shed - near Taunton.

Wilkes leaves a wife Shelley and three children. His funeral will take place on Friday April 13, 2012 at 11am at Taunton Deane Crematorium, Taunton, Somerset, and donations are welcome for the St Margaret's Hospice and Pancreatic Cancer UK

Michael Cox said: "Guy was my right-hand man at Negociants UK for 11 years, and was a close and loyal friend. The wine trade has lost a genuinely nice, honest, laconic man, full of integrity and charisma.

"His courage in facing his awful illness has been moving and humbling, but his family will cherish the high esteem in which Guy is held by his many friends and colleagues in the trade".
