Wines of Germany is calling for entries to its first UK 31 Days of German Riesling promotion, that aims to reinvigorate the image of German Riesling to consumers.

It follows on from its US campaign, spearheaded by, New York-based sommelier Paul Grieco and the German Wine Institute.

The national campaign which will run from July 1-31 - will see restaurants and independent retailers run German Riesling promotions for customers, to highlight the food matching capabilities, versatility and taste profile of German Rieslings.

The best retail and restaurant promotions will win trips to Germany and runners-up will win £500 towards new German wine listings.

The promotion will be supported by an extensive media relations campaign.

Wines of Germany's managing director in the UK, Nicky Forrest, said: "German Riesling should be a natural choice for consumers these days, given its naturally lower alcohol levels and light, refreshing, food-friendly styles.

"We're aiming to increase consumer awareness of these delicious wines by encouraging restaurants and retailers to get their customers to see German Riesling in a different light, through a more dynamic and more fun sales approach.

"The level of interest in The 31 Days of German Riesling campaign that we've seen from restaurants and retailers so far is hugely encouraging, so we're hopeful that this will be the start of the long overdue German Riesling resurgence in the UK"

German wine importers including ABS Wine Agencies, The Winebarn, Boutinot, World Wine Agencies and German Wine Agencies have all signed up to support the promotion.

The deadline to register is 31st May - germanwine@thisishphipps.com.
