THRESHER BOOSTS EFFICIENCY

Published:  23 July, 2008

The Thresher Group has embarked on a supply chain initiative that enables it to transport wine to the UK cheaper, quicker and easier - with lead time on stock effectively halved. Working in conjunction with logistics giant JF Hillebrand, the new strategy centres on sharing sales forecast data to a greater level, which enables producers to better manage their production levels so that shipments accurately reflect sales demand'. The new model also ensures that all producers make delivery to one central warehouse in the source country, allowing mixed loads to leave when needed. Previously, producers sent their own stock for shipping in full container quantities. Stuart Higgs, supply chain director at Thresher Group, commented: Following a successful trial period in South Africa, we know the project works and intend to roll it out to our other main producing regions worldwide. We have had an excellent reaction from producers who appreciate our new approach, which is essential for this new collaboration to work, and following negotiations with other key producers we are confident about the future of this programme.' Higgs added: We have been able to achieve our goal of higher product availability with lower overall product stockholding, and this gives us the competitive edge we are looking for.'
