LAY & WHEELER CONSOLIDATES STORAGE

Published:  23 July, 2008

By Jack Hibberd

Lay & Wheeler Group, the Colchester-based fine wine merchant and shipper, is consolidating its distribution and storage operations in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Hugo Rose MW, Lay & Wheeler's head of communications, said: We bought a bonded warehouse in Burton-on Trent with the aim of consolidating our commercial and customer reserves and this is the end of that process. We are putting our Bristol stock, our Colchester stock and our Burton-on-Trent stock in the same place.' Lay & Wheeler's sales force, retail business and tasting programme will remain in Colchester. The move, which should be completed in May, has led to the sale of 25,000 bottles of wine from discontinued lines and split cases for a 25% discount. Although the main part of the sale took place last weekend, Lay & Wheeler is currently offering whatever remains unsold over the Internet at www.laywheeler.com until the end of April.
